Washington’s state government has been shackled time and again by voter initiatives promoted by Tim Eyman, our unelected shadow governor. This session, the governor and Legislature asserted themselves and suspended the requirement for a two-thirds vote on raising taxes. That was an act of leadership in a crisis. I hate to think where we’d be if the people we elect governed only by polls.
