Marriage equality achieved in Iowa

Earlier today, the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously struck down Iowa’s law defining marriage in conservative terms. The ruling means that gay and lesbian couples will be able to marry in just twenty one days. Iowa does not allow constitutional amendments by initiative, so theocons will not be able to force a public vote (as they did in California) either this year or next year.

UPDATE: The NPI Advocate has additional analysis of this victory for civil liberties.
